Oh... that hurt, but in exactly all the right ways - if that makes sense. It's a situation where there's very few positives and lots of fears on both sides as well as plenty of incoming hurt, but I love the way you portray it here (and protective/competent!Billy is the CUTEST). I love that even as Laura is in pain and tired and disappointed/sad/afraid - she's still thinking through towards that future conversation about Kara's needs (rather than her own, which, fits within canon perfectly). As unready as she is for it, I think she's already bracing herself for an end, but I love seeing the way you managed to write Kara's spirit here, and her courage to face things head on with an irreverent sense of humour and proactive practicality.
The ending is rightfully ambiguous, but I DO hold onto hope for them, because they deserve happiness. Gods know, canon did a number on the both of them.
