I really enjoyed reading your comments on Tom. I agree with almost everything you've said although we differ on his happy childhood. I really like what you've said about his relationship with Laura and I really loved their dynamic on NC -- it had great potential for something else.
It's Tom's ruthlessness that rubs both ways. On one hand, he is unrelenting in his standards that people should be free and choose their own government, but his ruthlessness lets him believe that any means are acceptable to get what he wants. The shooting of the Quorum seems like a full-circle act of terrorism similar to what he did in the government bombing. The one thing that is curious about Tom is that his story line never seemed to allow space for his redemption (not that many BSG stories allow it), but it does strike me as interesting to think about at this moment. I wonder what redemption could have looked like for him?
